Zoom on a bespoke tailor : Connock and Lockie (°1902)

Connock and Lockie was established by cousins William Henry Connock and John Lockie in 1902 on 60 New Oxford Street, London.

From 2004 on they are based at 33 Lamb’s Conduit Street, in between other independent businesses dedicated to providing a personable service.

Throughout their 110 years of trading, they have proudly catered to the bespoke tailoring needs of discerning ladies and gentlemen.

Given the labour-intensive nature of bespoke tailoring, they work with a delivery time of 12 weeks. Each garment starts its life as a unique paper pattern. The cloth is cut accordingly and loosely stitched together to form a baste for the first fitting. Several fittings are required to create the perfect garment.

Scabal's mill in Yorkshire

In the last Bespoken, Eric Musgrave zooms in on Scabal's mill Bower Roebuck in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England.

In the article you can read about the history of the textile and woollen industry, defining the proud tradition of British-made high-quality weaving.

Whilst "Made in England" is a sign of quality, "Made in Huddersfield" is regarded as the gold standard for suitings.

Founded in 1899 by Mr. Bower and Mr. Roebuck, the mill has been delivering excellence ever since, producing some of the finest and most refined cloths in the Scabal bunches. They are also at the forefront of technical innovations for years as Scabal was the first to develop Super 120's qualities and the first to extend to the finess of Super 150's levels.

Woody Allen and Scabal fabric in his new movie

Woody Allen was born December 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York and needs little introduction after being over 60 years in show business and having won Oscars, Baftas and Golden Globe Awards.

He has been working on a new movie "Blue Jasmine" coming out in July. It stars Alec Baldwin and Cate Blanchett. Now he has started a new movie casting Colin Firth and Emma Stone. He is shooting this comedy in France.

Woody Allan will be using Scabal fabric 500811 of the Cashmere Cotton bunch.

EOS Wool and Silk

Two years after the launch of the first Eos collection, Scabal is rereleasing this luxurious fabric with twenty new and exclusive designs presented in a stylish boxed set.

Eos, the Greek goddess of the dawn and mother of the wind gods, is often depicted as a winged figure. She symbolizes elegance and grace, making her a natural choice for Scabal. It has created Eos, a 220-gram featherlight fabric with all the refinement of silk, in her honour. Eos is 55% silk and 45% Super 180’s wool. The silk gives it a beautiful natural sheen, whilst extra-fine Merino wool creates an exceptional drape and weightlessness. The fabrics in this collection have been serge woven. The main feature of this weave is its diagonal appearance. A vertical warp thread runs over and under a horizontal weft thread. The colour palette is sober, with shades ranging from light grey to black, including mid-grey, charcoal, sea blue and navy blue. The designs are elegant, featuring discrete stripes, herringbones, plain and semi-plain patterns.

Sir Paul McCartney wears Scabal fabrics

Meeting up with Mr. Bond, Pierce Brosnan

Bespoken magazine had the chance to meet actor Pierce Brosnan at the most recent edition of the Mostra di Venezia film festival. Brosnan, who has always been an aficionado of fine fabrics, is a modern gentleman who is considered as a timeless icon of male elegance.

In the Hochstrasse of the 5th biggest city of Germany, Frankfurt, you can visit the Scabal store that was opened in 2011.

Frankfurt has over 2,3 million inhabitants (large area, 700000 for the city) and is known as the most important financial center of Germany with head offices of major banks. It is also known as the city with an important yearly book fair. It plays an important role in the European economy as it hosts the European Central Bank.

Robbie Williams in Scabal cloth

Robbie Williams is back. With "Candy" he scored a late summer hit. In the Summer of this year he will tour in Europe.

70 million albums sold, 17 BRIT awards, co-owner of football team Port Vale, and even mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records, this enfant terrible has been in the spotlight for over 20 years.

From teenage idol in Take That to respected solo artist, he proves to be a top entertainer.

At the Brit Awards Robbie wore a purple Scabal fabric 500919 of the New Deluxe bunch made by Spencer Hart (picture on the right).

He wore another suit made by A Sauvage in the fabric 500896 of the same bunch.
